Heuer 989.113L Night Diver
Heuer 989.113L Night Diver, Pewter PVD, Full lume dial. c1985
This is a very late Heuer diver, noted by the ‘L’ at the end of the model number. These also featured an elaborate signed case back, 1000 on the dial and a signed crown. It’s unbelievably rare (never seen another, anywhere), as it was so late in the Heuer range, just before the TAG takeover.
There are very similar models that appear the same, but have a different model code. The ‘989’ code was originally believed by Heuer collectors to be only seen on the newer TAG versions, until I turned this one up, and a Heuer catalogue page was later discovered with it in. There doesn’t seem to be a good reason why the code structure changed, usually the codes follow on from the older models. One reason could be that the case is slightly thinner than the earlier example, but that happened to other 1000 divers and the code stayed the same.

Have you been able to find much information about the 989.106? Looks like a 42mm just from eyeballing it. I did not know one existed until I scrolled all the way down in this article and saw the image of the ad for the 989 series.

I have exactly the same watch. Any idea where I could get a replacement dial and hands? Mine are showing some wear. I have found some aftermarket hands but they seem to be incorrect. The minute hand has Lume along the majority of its length and the same for the hour hand, they also have Lume in the ball of the second hand where it should be black.
My dial is starting to mottle around the centre, it would be good to get them replaced to return the watch to as original, as you say they are unbelievably rare. This is the only other one I’ve seen.

Finding a new dial & hands is going to be a tough hunt, parts like those are very thin on the ground. I can only advise to hunt eBay and forums.

Can anyone give me some info on the 989.106L that is shown in that catalog picture? I am looking at purchseing one from a private collector and have no idea on the rarity or the value. thanks.

The difference being that it has a slimmer movement and case. It has ‘1000’ on the dial and a Heuer signed case back and crown. These are very rarely seen. Condition is everything with these. If absolutely mint, then I’d hazard a guess at £1500-2000, but it would have to be like new/NOS. However… these aren’t in that great a demand, so that value would be to a specific collector who was specifically after one. If the PVD is worn, or any specs on the dial, the value drops considerably, to easily 1/2 that quoted, if not more.

I was communicating with the seller but their responses dropped off so it must have sold. After blowing up the photos and looking closely it looks like it did have a few issues. Dented case, staining on the dial. I think in that condition he was asking top dollar for it. What was really peaking my interest is the fact that it was a Heuer marked caseback and dial rather than Tag/Heuer. I think my search will have to continue for a black pvd model.

I own a 989.113L similar to yours except the logo has tag on top, and does not say 1000 or quartz, it just says proffessional 200 meters with the tag heuer logo. I am looking for a buyer, where would the best place be to find one?

I own a Heuer 1000 quartz 200 meters professional with a black body and bracelet. The serial number is 980 031L and was purchased from Prestons jewellers, Leigh, Manchester in 1986. The watch may be a night diver as it has a white dial. Do you have any more information on this watch
