Ed. Heuer & Cie. Moonphase Chronograph Ref. 188.505. 125th Anniversary Edition from 1985. Lemania 1883 Movement

I’ve never been much of a Moonphase fan, until now. This is my first ‘complication’ and what a beautiful rare example it is. It is in stunning original condition, thanks to the previous Swiss collector who cared for it well, seemingly spending most of its life as a ‘safe queen’. It has the original strap and buckle. I even had to peel off the protection sticker from the caseback to take the photos.

The 188.505 was part of the specially designed Heuer 125th Anniversary collection, released in 1985.
Ironically Heuer had just merged with TAG, so some of the first, and finest watches to be sold under the new TAG Heuer name were designed by Heuer and signed Ed. Heuer & Cie. (Cie = Co.) The absence of the Heuer shield is a wonderful nod to the very first watches that founder Edouard Heuer crafted well over a century ago, a time before they wore the famous Heuer shield.

It’s a beautifully compact piece, being only 35mm across including the crown & 38mm lug to lug, gold filled and is driven by the world famous Lemania 1883, which is seen in many of the finest Moonphase watches out there. This added connection with Lemania is quite apt given Heuer long history with the movement maker.
